Singapore shipbuilder Seatrium has completed the conversion of the LNG carrier LNGT Turkiye into a floating storage and regasification unit, with the vessel departing the company's Admiralty yard in Singapore on September 23, 2026. The delivery marks the completion of the seventh FSRU conversion project Seatrium has carried out for Turkish energy group Karpowership, and the final vessel in the current program to leave the Admiralty facility.
The conversion contract was not awarded directly by Karpowership but by Kinetics, a business affiliated with the Turkish energy group that develops floating LNG facilities and renewable energy platforms. The project was publicly announced in July 2025, with conversion work scheduled to begin during the third quarter of that year. The vessel departed the Admiralty yard just over a year after that announcement, on September 23, 2026.
The work undertaken at Seatrium's Admiralty yard involved the installation of a regasification module alongside a spread-mooring system. Beyond those primary components, Seatrium integrated the vessel's cargo handling systems, LNG offloading infrastructure, utility systems, and electrical and automation systems. The completed unit is capable of receiving LNG from carriers, storing the cargo on board, and returning it to a gaseous state for transfer to an onshore network or associated power facilities.
The delivery of LNGT Turkiye reflects a long-running conversion relationship between Seatrium and Karpowership. Prior to this project, Seatrium had completed conversion works on four other vessels for the group: Karmol LNGT Powership Africa, Karmol LNGT Powership Asia, Karmol LNGT Powership Europe, and Karmol LNGT Powership Antarctica. Combined with LNGT Turkiye and the two additional vessels in the broader sequence, the Admiralty yard has become a consistent delivery hub for Karpowership's expanding fleet of floating regasification assets.
Despite the completion of the seventh vessel, the partnership between Seatrium and Karpowership is not yet concluded. Seatrium has already been selected to carry out the conversion of LNGT Karadeniz, which will be the eighth FSRU conversion project between the yard and the Turkish energy group. That vessel is designed to provide regasification capacity that can reach 600 million standard cubic feet per day. Conversion work on LNGT Karadeniz was planned for the third quarter of 2026, the same quarter in which LNGT Turkiye completed its own conversion and departed the yard.
Floating storage and regasification units occupy a critical position in the global LNG supply chain by allowing countries and operators to access natural gas without the need for permanent onshore import terminals.
An FSRU moored offshore or at a jetty can receive LNG delivered by conventional carriers, maintain the cargo in its liquefied state in onboard tanks, and then vaporize it on demand for delivery into pipelines or to nearby power generation facilities. For Karpowership, which operates powerships that generate electricity from LNG and other fuels, FSRUs serve as the upstream supply infrastructure that feeds its generation assets.
The Admiralty yard in Singapore has served as the central location for the entire current program of Karpowership FSRU conversions delivered by Seatrium. The departure of LNGT Turkiye marks the conclusion of that seven-vessel sequence at the facility, though the forthcoming work on LNGT Karadeniz indicates the yard will continue to handle Karpowership-related projects.
Seatrium, as a Singapore-based shipbuilder, has positioned itself as a significant player in the FSRU conversion market through the sustained volume of work carried out for the Turkish client over the course of this program.
