Nord Gas Solutions has been selected by Excelerate Energy to supply the regasification system module for the Houston-based LNG company's first floating storage and regasification unit conversion project, marking a significant milestone for both companies in the global LNG infrastructure market.
The contract was awarded in July 2026, with Nord Gas Solutions publicly announcing the agreement on September 14, 2026. Under the terms of the deal, Nord Gas Solutions will supply a regasification system module to be installed aboard the Methane Patricia Camila, a 170,000 cubic meter LNG carrier currently undergoing conversion into a floating storage and regasification unit. Delivery of the NGS regasification module is scheduled for the first half of 2028.
Excelerate Energy, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker EE, described the conversion of the Methane Patricia Camila as its first FSRU conversion project, underlining the significance of the undertaking within the company's operational history.
David Liner, Chief Operating Officer of Excelerate Energy, pointed to a combination of industry experience and an established working relationship as the basis for the selection. "Nord Gas Solutions brings extensive experience designing and delivering regasification systems for the global LNG industry. Combined with our longstanding relationship, their technical expertise made them a natural partner for Excelerate Energy's first FSRU conversion project," Liner said.
Pål Steinnes, Head of Sales, Midstream at Nord Gas Solutions, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the company's track record in FSRU conversion work specifically. "The award of this important contract was based on our extensive global experience in regas modules for FSRU conversions. We have a strong relationship with Excelerate Energy, and it's a great honor to once again team up with one of the industry's most prominent companies on their first conversion project," Steinnes said.
The contract represents one of the first major public announcements under the Nord Gas Solutions brand, which is itself a recent development in the LNG equipment supply industry. Nord Gas Solutions is the corporate identity formed following the acquisition of Wärtsilä Gas Solutions by Mutares SE & Co., a German private equity investor. That acquisition took effect on June 1, 2026, just weeks before the Excelerate Energy contract was awarded in July of the same year.
The company describes itself as a market leader in systems and lifecycle solutions for the gas value chain, with core focus areas spanning marine gas handling, gas-to-power applications, liquefaction, and biogas solutions. The transition from Wärtsilä Gas Solutions to Nord Gas Solutions represents a change in ownership and branding, while the underlying technical operations and expertise carried forward into the new corporate structure.
The vessel at the center of this project, the Methane Patricia Camila, has a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters. Once the conversion is complete and the Nord Gas Solutions regasification module is operational aboard the vessel, the converted FSRU is intended to help expand access to natural gas in the markets it serves.
Excelerate Energy described the anticipated impact in terms of providing cleaner and more affordable natural gas to those markets. FSRU conversions have become an increasingly prominent pathway for expanding LNG import infrastructure, allowing existing LNG carriers to be repurposed as combined storage and regasification assets without the need to construct entirely new purpose-built vessels. For Excelerate Energy, a company with significant experience operating FSRUs, undertaking a conversion rather than relying solely on purpose-built units marks a notable evolution in its fleet strategy.
Nord Gas Solutions' selection for this contract reflects the continued demand for FSRU-based infrastructure as countries and energy companies seek flexible and relatively rapid means of accessing natural gas supplies.
The regasification system module is the core processing component that enables an FSRU to receive liquefied natural gas, convert it back into gaseous form, and deliver it into onshore pipeline networks or power generation facilities.
The timeline set out in the contract, with module delivery expected in the first half of 2028, places the completion of the Methane Patricia Camila conversion project as a near-term event on the LNG infrastructure calendar. Nord Gas Solutions is headquartered in Norway, with media inquiries directed to its Sales and Marketing Coordinator based there.
